What’s one habit that has improved your life the most?
Habits are tricky, as sometimes we don’t realize we have them. Some have been taught and instilled in us by the ones we love. And then there are habits that we want to engrain in our own lifestyle and instill in our family.
My father is a veteran, and he instilled in me the belief that you thank EVERY veteran you “run” into. And with all my heart and true pride, I do. But it’s never just a thank you for your service, sir or ma’am. I add “I promise I will do my best to preserve what you fought to protect.” I love the smiles and your welcome(s) that follow my honest and heartfelt message.
Although I am always thanking veterans and current soldiers, it’s the Vietnam veterans that break my heart the most. Because they didn’t get the positive “welcome home” they deserved. Although I wasn’t alive during that time, I was told by many Veterans that the people didn’t understand the truth of the situation and that the soldiers had to do what they were told to do. Most didn’t agree, but that was their job, and it had to be done. It’s hard for people to understand, but whether you understand or don’t, you should still thank them because they put their lives on the line for this country.
I encourage you to make this a habit too!
To all our current service members and veterans. I thank you for my freedoms, and I will do my best to honor what you did. I pray for you all and your families as (we) they serve too. God bless you all!
